Pop-Up Light Question - Wiring?
I was just wondering exactly how to the headlights know to pop up? From the switch I would assume it goes to a relay that runs the actual bulbs... but I wonder if there are two relays, one for the bulbs, and one for the motor...
either way, the reason I ask is because about 1/4 times I turn on my head lights, they won't pop up, but the lights are actually on.. they kinda make a weird line of light shine on the ground throught my gfx...
when this happens I can go out and turn them by hand no problem, or I can just sit and wait, and usually they just randomly pop up... most of the time I just drive with my fog lights on because they are... well.. they are...
I'm wondering if it could be a wiring problem, because if only one headlight was not working properly, I would assume the motor was not working correctly.
The wiring probably goes like this picture I attached
the reason I think this, is because the motors obviously still have power when you turn off the headlights because they are still going down as the bulbs are off... but then I get confused because when the headlights are coming down you can flip the parking lights on and they will stop right where they are... I think that the relay that runs the motors is like 2-stage or something... or maybe its a transitor and not a relay...
Thanks for any help, I've been trying to fix this problem for a while

You probably have a loose wire somehwere and it probably engergizes the motor when bumped during driving. I would go ahead and check the wires to see if they are loose, or chiped.
It could be the motor itself, but unless it makes noise I would not worry about it.
Check the wires, it is an old vehicle.
Good luck

There are three relays to be exact, the isolation relay (Main one), left actuator relay, and right actuator relay. If you will do a
you will find the wiring schematics that I have posted several times on the board.

if it was a problem with the motor internals wouldn't individual motors have issues? rather than randomly popping up? this is a strange problem because I can let the car sit with the lights on and they will just pop up on their own... I don't think it has to do with bumps... very strange
also I did search but I must not have put the right wording because I couldn't find much... almost just random stuff not having to do with headlights at all... strange search engine..

yes thank you for the link, I did eventually find that post... really good information.. looks like I've got pretty much all I need to know to fix it the right way.... thank you very much...
I still kinda wonder why the headlights would pop up randomly, whether I'm driving or not. very strange problem... years ago I even took it to a shop and had them "fix" the problem, I believe all they did was change out a relay up near the drivers side MC (the group of fuses).... well it never really fixed it to say the least, although it seemed to work very well for a long time, with minimal problems... I wonder if some wiring problem can cause the relay to wear out real quick? I guess it would be that one main relay that controls both headlamp motors at the same time...
thanks
