Problems with power hatch
The car is an 86 Iroc. We popped the trunk open today and the motor continued to run. Any idea what is wrong? I was reading through some old post and it sounds like it oculd be a broken gear nut? Also how can we close the trunk all the way? The trunk will latch but will not go down all the way.

Does anyone know how we can get the trunk to shut all the way? Broken motor doesnt matter, just need the car to be driveable.

Mike's diagnosis of a broken gear nut is correct. They can either shread the outer teeth or shear in half. To manually lower the latch you'd have to disassemble the hatch pull-down unit to expose the gear nut, then manually turn the gear to lower the latch, then reassemble the unit. It is easier just to replace the broken gear nut once you've disassembled it, since the same steps to dissassemble and reassemble would be required.
Mike the new gear nut should arrive shortly.
