wiring a 82 wiper motor to run off 91 electronics

I know the 82's wiper motor is fed power then grounded through the switch while later models are opposite. Has anyone ever done this swap or know how to make my wiper motor work with the 91 switch

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Here's a chart I made up of the changes made when I swapped an 84 column into my 83 SC.
This was using the stock 83 dash wiring, and re-pinning just one connector; unfortunately, I don't recall which connector I re-pinned, but it should be obvious when you look at them.

thanx but the problem isn't in my dash or column harness it the fact I have 91 electronics under my hood and the 82 wiper motor, so what 91 engine wiper harness wires would go where on the 82's wiper motor to make it work correctly

Jproz,

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm currently looking at trying to solve the same problem.

yes sir I did ..... I grafted in a section for the wiper from a 91 car, painted it then bolted up a 1990 wiper motor end of problem .....

sorry electrically after putting the 91 harness to many other issues came up such as the 91 has a washer pump in it's resovoir tank, so making a 90 wiper motor bolt up was the simplest way to go .... good luck guy

Thanks for that.

So you just used the 91 harness and attached a 90 wiper motor? How did you get on with pinout of C100? I notice it's a bit different between '82 and the 90s.

If you could email me any kind of diagrams or further descriptions it would be very appreciated.

you missed something. I grafted a section of 91 firewall into my 82's firewall, then it was just a matter of bolting up the newer motor on and plugging it in.

nothing in my car has to do with the original 82 harness now, every wire in the car has been changed over to 1991 stuff. so basically it was just plug it all in and everything worked.

Oh I see. I hadn't realised that your car has all its electronics replaced. I had thought you only had 91 electronics under the hood, and not inside the car as well. My mistake. I will have to keep my 82 in-car electronics, so figuring out how to make the wipers work is going to be an interesting challenge for me.

it's my understanding that the mojor difference is this. the 82 wiper motor has direct power to it. where as the later models have power to the switch and the 82's switch was just for grounding. but you would really have to ask someone else on this.

when you say grafted exactly what do you mean ? I recently swapped a 92 steering column into my 83z28 and want to swap the wiper motor as well instead of repinning the old harness. Any info appreciated on the process

The 83 motor I believe is a different physical shape to 92. If you want to use the 92 wiper motor too then you'll alter to alter the shape of your firewall. This is my understanding of our cars and I believe is what Jproz1167 meant.
