Cutting off Unused Wires from the Engine Bay Harness
i want to make sure im not going to mess anything up in my quest to make a very clean compartment. 1991 TPI 305
i have two big questions:
im not using the factory fan relays on the firewall so i plan to cut those off. will this affect anything?
im running a new fan switch with its own threaded probe. so can i cut off the old sensor/probe from the factory coolant temp thats in the pass head? (or does this affect the ECM too and not just the fans???)
i have already cut the a/c wiring off and will cut the wiper motor wiring off, EGR wiring off, cruise control wiring, and wires that previously went to the fans themselves. im just going to cut these and then wrap them in the wireloom.
Does anyone see any problems in doing this???

cutting wires
The fan relays: no, just be sure you tape the end of the "hot" (orange) wires so that you do not fry anything ie: entire wiring system.
Coolant switch in head: yes you can cut this wire as well its only purpose in life is to cut the fan on at a certain temperature. Since you already have that area covered then no problem.
Hope this helps, you might want to invest in a Chiltons of Haynes manual with wiring diagrams, in case you get the wire chopping bug in the future.

thanks, i was pretty sure both of those areas did nothing but wanted to make sure. ive got a Chiltons and Haynes but IMO they are junk and i couldnt realy understand the wiring diagrams
as far as the wiring bug...ive just lengthened or shortened 95% of the wires in the harness
Oh...one more question...is there a switched wire on the fan relays (or anywhere else in the bay) i can run my switched fan switch wire to??

The GRN/WHT wire is the "switched" wire, but it switches to GND not to power. You may be better off using your own fan "wiring harness". I run mine off of a switch and factory relay, I ran my own wires so that I had complete control of the fan. Check out my custom console cover. (see pic)

well for the time being i dont need total fan control but i did buy an adjustable kit so i can have the fan switch on from 150-240. everything is wired up i just need to run that last little yellow wire to a switched source...damn i wish the GND wasnt switched on the old relays
