No, .2 amp and 2 amp is not the same. This guy obviously dosnt know what he is talking about. the 1/2 amp and .5 are the same but not the .2 amp and 2 amp.
.2 amps is less than a 1/4 of an amp.

Why do you think they are 2A instead of 0.2A, is it on the box? Sometimes the "." is hard to see on the fuse.
What meters are these? I know those aren't Fluke fuse sises. They use a 0.220A fuse on the 200mA side and 11A on the 10A side and so forth.
What are you doing to blow all the fuses?

Did you try disconnecting the fuse that goes to the ECM??? I would also check to make sure no lights were on like under hood, in hatch area. That happend to me once were I forget to turn the cargo light off and didnt even think to look at it until I had to get something outta the hatch at night and noticed that the switch was left on. I know theres supposed to be a little draw off the battery, but not sure how much of one.

recaroguy - I know in my 86 the ECM fuse is by the battery in a weather-pack connector. I dont know if in 82 thats where they put or if it would be the same in a TA. I know its not in the fuse box in my car as ive had to change this fuse once before. Hope this helps. Also, does your car have a power pull down motor in the hatch???

Im trying to think right now as to what would be pulling down .5 amps. If you have any amps in the car, I would try and disconnect the main power to them as they are still live even if radio is not powered up. Other than that Im trying my hardest to figure it out. Ive been to my car a few times trying to go over what it could be and the only thing so far that I come up with is an interior light being on to get a .5 amp reading on my meter. Other than that with everything off in my car im pulling a .072 Amp rating. Probably because of memory of radio, CD changer and ECM. When I first hook up Neg wire to battery, I too get a little spark, but like I said it still goes back down to about .072 Amps on meter.

Does the car start with this wire disconnected??? If so it dosnt go to the ECM. But congrats on finding the source. It does sound like the wire for the ECM though.
The early ThirdGens used a fusible link for ECM power, thus, no fuse near the battery. Later years used a fuseholder wher your connector is located.
If the ECM is drawing half an amp in standby with only the PROM inserted, that's a strange one. There should be no more than a few microamps to maintain RAM, and that's done OFF the PROM (on other RAM chips in the ECM). Since that vintage of ECM doesn't have a full MEMCAL to my recollection, there are no resistor chips to set backup parameters, and should be no way for the PROM to draw that kind of current without the smoke coming out.
You DO have just the 24-pin PROM in the open-top plastic carrier, correct?
