ACCESSORY FUSE blows as soon as it is in
I have a 1989 IROC 5.0 TPI. I currently have no Horn, interior lights, and the trunk release button. Everytime I put in a fuse in the accessory location it blows instantly. Any ideas? I recently had the alarm taken off hoping that would fix the problem but no luck. It seems like a direct short. has anyone had this problem before, is this a common for this car.

i had this problem recently with my gauge fuse, but it was because i had something else plugged into my fuse box. if you do have anything else plugged into your fuse box take that out then try a new fuse

i had a power wire hooked up for my speedometer converter, but anything you plug into the box at all could possibly effect the way other fuses work

Re: ACCESSORY FUSE blows as soon as it is in
thanks guys. I will try that tomorrow. I just put on the SLP intake runners and a ac delete pulley, removed smog pump and did the coolant bypass upgrades yesterday and today. not to get off the subject, put these upgrades made a huge difference. so I am going to tackle the cig. lighter trick ans let you know. I hope that is what is causing this fuse problem, I will be one happy dude if that is all I have to do. I am still up for other suggestions.

I know this is an old thread but I must say after countless hours of trying to fix the same exact problem I was getting desperate and thinking of taking the car to an eletrical shop. I know of other third gens that not only I have owned but other people own that have this exact problem. Just wanted to say thanks!!!
P.S. this should be a sticky in the electrical tech. articles........

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I EVEN REPLACED THE CIG LIGHTER SOCKET WITH A NEW ONE. EVERYTHING WORKS FINE UNLESS I ACTUALLY USE THE LIGHTER AND THEN IT BLOWS THE FUSE. I JUST QUIT USING THE LIGHTER AND NO MORE PROBLEMS. WORKS GREAT FOR THE GPS AND THE CELL PHONE CHARGER.

haha, I think I might have swapped out the original 3rd gen cig lighter. I disconnected it and everything works great! I'm glad I didn't have to spend half a day doing and undoing the wiring!

YEAH, WIRING DIFFICULTIES MUST BE ONE OF THE MOST FRUSTRATING THINGS ON EARTH! GLAD WE HAVE THIS SITE TO COMPARE NOTES AND EXPERIENCES. COULD SAVE US HOURS, IF NOT DAYS, OF HEAD SCRATCHING.
