Problem with Tach Wiring
I found the tach wire (black with white stripe) and got it to go from 7000 rpms to 0 rpms by playing with it but when connected to the distributor it stays at 0 so do I have a bad tach in my dash cluster or is there something else I need to do to get it working? By the way, I have the IROC dash cluster.

Re: Problem with Tach Wiring
what kind of tach is it, also i think the tach wire is a white one, at least on my car ( 88 305 tbi) do you have a msd or electronic distributer? sorry i cant help much but if you give some more info it would help me( or anyone else)
By the way; Sweet engine!!
Oh i almost forgot. some tachs will require you to open them up ( vdo top eliminator) and flip some tiny swiches to set it for your engine type.

Re: Problem with Tach Wiring
I have the tach from the IROC dash cluster. Sorry, I have an HEI distributor. Would the wiring from your 88 be different from my 87? I was thinking it could be because of the difference in location from the stock 2.8 distributor locating comparing to the 350? Would color remain the same for the wire?

Re: Problem with Tach Wiring
I'm having a prob with my tach too, when I connect the power and ground wires only it reads 0 as it should, but with the engine idling and connect a wire I ran directly to the tach to the distributor, the tach jumps to 6500 rpm and will peg out if the rpm is increased slightly. I've tried three junkyard tachometers so far.

I am also having trouble getting my tach to work on my '83 camaro. The tach worked for the 2.8 that was in it but when putting in a 350 with HEI distributor it just reads 0. If grounded is there a wire from the wiring harness that will make the tach work or will it even work at all? Any answers are appreciated.
