90 camaro VSS

car is a 1990 camaro that was originally an auto car, now has a tko-600 that im trying to wire up a Dakota digital box for.

So previous years had a DRAC that was in a little yellow box with only a couple wires going in and out of it.

My ecm has a yellow box thats actually part of the ecm that has a 20+ wire connector plugged into it.

in my helm inc manual talks at length about a VSS buffer but then goes on to say this is only for L03 motors.

Re: 90 camaro VSS

wish i could photocopy this, hopefully someone else has a helm inc manual for a 90

so after more reading ive come to discern that my vss is run directly to the ecm.

There is a yellow and purple wire in slots b9 and b10 which is the smaller of the two black connectors in my ecm

i'm confused by the rest because for the rest of the wires there is a slot number on both sides of the wire by the ecm. EDIT: okay so they all have either C1 or C2 written beside them..pretty much

the wire coming from the cluster has B11 written on one side of it, and C1 underlined on the other side of it, so that wire should be in slot B11 and be grey.

Theres a wire coming from the ECM FUSE listed in slot A6 which would be the large black connector on the ecm.

Then it also lists two grounds one listed at A12 with C1 underlined on the other side, and D1 with C2 underlined on the other side.

The last wire is from the cruise module and is listed at C1 with C2 underlined beside it.

So pretty obvious that i disconnect the yellow and purple and those are my signal wires from the VSS and the red wire in B11 is my signal to the tach.

That just leaves me with having to wire up ground and power which im not entirely sure how to do.
This also sucks because it seems like my dakota box will completly bypass the ecm and i was hoping to give my ecm a vss signal again

Re: 90 camaro VSS

i think ive figured it out. The three signal wires i know where they are, and i should be able to take 12V power and ground from anywhere, so hopefully that works

kinda shitty i have to bypass the ecm but oh well not the end of the world
