i gotta 88 Trans Am GTA with TPI 5.0 and digital dash.. the speedos not working! it stays on 0 mph no matter how fast i go! the odometer doesn't advance either, its eternally stuck on 144,000! what do i do?

 

You have an electronic speedometer, but there are still two plastic gears inside the tailshaft of the transmission that turn the VSS. You need to make sure the plug is connected to the VSS on the tailshaft of the tranny. If that is ok, then you will need to remove the VSS and look inside and make sure those two plastic gears are ok.

 

i just talked to the guy that i got the car from and he said the gears are ground up so im gonna have to get new ones.. know where i can get some for cheap?

 

You might consider posting all pertinent info about your ride, to include trans type (the gears are different).

I have a few gears laying around let me know what color you need. I may have them. Take off the bolt that is holding the vss on the trans. Then pull the assembly out. One gear will be on the vss. the other will be on the tailshaft of the trans. Just look at what colors are swirled around in there.

sweet. ill have to get her jacked up.. its an 88 GTA, i believe it has a 700r4 transmission..
