fog light auto shut off
just wondering if it can be done. i want to be able to shut the car off, leave the fog(driving) lights on, and have them turn off automatically and dim out. kinda like all the newer cars interior lights. I think it would look cool as hell, and help me see in my driveway as i walk away. not sure if it has been done, but i'd like to try. any ideas?

I didn't do this, but my first thought would be, to look into a Cadillac wiring diagram for their twilight switch system. (hayns or chilton) book. good luck and good idea.

This is pretty simple to do (if you're good with electrical) and it sounds like an interesting project.
All you need is a PWM controller (let's say DRV103), a bigger electrolytic capacitor (maybe 1000uF), a P-channel MOSFET (15A+, 15V+) and a button (and a few passive components).
Now putting it all together is the fun part. If you would like to tackle that, I could draw you a diagram.
It would take a few tries to get the capacitor and resistor values right to adjust the timing to your liking.

Check some of the electronic kit web sites. I'm sure you can find a timer kit with the board and components. You'll just need to figure out where and how to tap into the fog light circuit.
This one might work, but the relay current capacity is a little small to connect the fogs directly:
http://www.electronickits.com/kit/co...lec/ck1614.htm
I would imagine that you can use the relay in this kit to operate a larger relay that's connected to the lights.
You'll also have to find the correct trigger signal for the timer. A manual button providing 12V would work....and auto trigger would be slicker.
Edit: The trigger can be the dome light.....like when you open the door to exit the car.
Oh yeah, I'm NOT an electronic wiz by any stretch....obviously.
