1987 Formula wierd turn signal issues

hey all. ive got this weird turn signal issue. the right signal works fine. i turn on the left and the lights come on and stay on. all bubls are good, just replaced a blwon one in the rear. hazard flashers work normally. i was thinking a relay might be the issue (sticking/hanging up) but wouldnt that afect both sides not just one??? HELP!!!!

The hazard has its own flasher, different resistance running all the blinkers. You are correct the same flasher operates right or left. Are all the lefts lit up? Are they as bright as the rights? Is your battery fully charged? The lights will do some weird stuff on a weak battery.

If the lights are bright, there is a short somewhere. If dim, it may be a bad ground not flowing enough current to heat up flasher and make it toggle. Hopefully battery just needs a good charging.

the lights come on but dont flash off. they are the same brightness as the rights when they flash for the right signal. i had a rear turn singal out, replaced it (ive already done work on the connector). light is still good, no popped fuses or nothin, they just wont flash off. batt is fully charged. <shrug>

With that, I'm wondering about your turn signal switch which is very expensive for our '87s.

With test light probe, track down the feed from the flasher at your steering column connector. Long flat white and blue connectors. It will be hot ignition on and flashing when your right signal is on.
The right signal output will the other one that flashes when the signal is on.
The left, the hot when left signal on (but not flashing of course). There might be multiple outputs for front and rear, I don't remember exactly.

Unhook the connector from the column and jump the flasher feed to the left output. If the lights blink the problem is in the column wiring or switch. If still solid somewhere else in the wiring.
