I have a friend who has this HEI MSD kit for his 1984 Z28. The problem first of all is that the car has no spark. We have gone through the basics. We replaced the battery, the starter (was on the way out) and once overed the car. The car still will not start. So we believe it might be this ignition coil or MSD kit.



This is the kit. I am an LT1 guy myself so this stuff is just way beyond what I am use to. Can anyone clearly identify which one is the ignition coil? Or if something did die from this kit, what would we want to replace? Sorry for the newb question, to me being an LT1 guy the black box on the right off the picture with the spark plug looks to be the igntion coil, looks very similar to mine. However, the red cylinder MSD that run the ignition coil has us fooled. So would someone please identify the coil please?

its an adapter setup, it allows you to run an external coil in hei

the black piece with what appears to be a sparkplug goes in place of a factory hei in cap coil, and you run a coil wire to the red cylinder which is actually the coil
