electric hatch doesn't work
My electric hatch in my iroc doesn't work, it is unpluged, and down. It opens and closes, but the mechanism doesn't go up or down.

Re: electric hatch doesn't work
I should state more accurately that my electric motor will keep running if wired, so I left it unplugged. The reason for the electric motor gently pulling down the hatch is so you don't get a burst of air pressure in the car. My hatch will latch when I close it, so I am not too busted up about it. I just want it to be correct. Your hatch will not latch when you close it?

no it wont latch when i close the hatch but the latch isn't latched without the hatch because the key doesn't cause a click when i turn it

Re: electric hatch doesn't work
I would first try triggering the striker sensing switch with your finger (or a screwdriver) and see if it doesn't try to raise itself back up. (If this works you should make sure that the Hatch Pulldown bracket is adjusted to the correct position and tighten the 3 bolts that hold it in place so it doesn't go to low again!)
Have you tried running a power wire directly to the motor to see if it tries to operate? If it does, you could just have a bad relay (which probably blew because the motor was still trying to pull the hatch down even though it was all the way closed...which could be why you cant get it to latch now since the entire pulldown bracket is probably sitting too low)
Anyway...it's a lot to check but if you figure it out, go here for the parts you need: http://www.top-downsolutions.com/ind...82a9766400b0b1
Hope this helps!

Re: electric hatch doesn't work
I'll give it a try. It sounds like I should just replace the whole unit unless it's the relay. I'll keep screwing around with it maybe some of the sound advise I have received from this thread will help me solve this...

Re: electric hatch doesn't work
i am having the same problem, with my 87 camaro the electric release works but the pull down motor does not, does not appear to be any power getting to the relay. anyone have a wiring diagram or ideas?
should add that this is a recent purchase, a z-28 iroc, 87, 5 spd, just starting fix problems created by previous owner

Not to be a smart ars, but I'd leave it. You could always replace the unit if you really want it to work. I may have mentioned before, my iroc does the same thing, and it's like a normal hatch back minus the unnecessary motor.

Re: electric hatch doesn't work
Ive got a couple questions on this subject, I just bought my 89 bird and I heard the motor for the pulldon running but the latch doesnt catch the hatch. But I was checking it out, and the whole pulldown slides up and down with me simply pulling on it, so my hatch won latch shut because the whole unit just slides down to far. I pulled the panel off and everything is loose, and a metal braket fell out. I have never seen the inside of these before so does anyone have any idea how to make this thing work again, or have any pics of what it should look like properly assembled?

Re: electric hatch doesn't work
I have a 89 camaro not sure if all of them were the same but check your fuses my hatch was on the same fuse as the cigerett lighter.... i blew my cigerett lighter one day and the hatch didnt work... not sure but it might be on the same wire for ur cars as well
if theres no power to the relay its proably a fuse man that one is proably under the dash as mine was
