Oil pressure gauge
My oil pressure gauge likes to do its own thing it will work sometime and others it will do what it wants to, won't read, bounce around etc etc.could any one help? Oh its a 1991 z28 if that matter's about anything
Re: Oil pressure gauge
I know absolutely nothing about how the gauges even work, but it'd be a good idea to check the obvious first. Maybe check behind the gauges, see if any cables or wires are lose.

Re: Oil pressure gauge
Check the wires going to the Oil Pressure Sending Unit - it should be located just above your oil filter - there are 3 wires, two are larger, they run the fuel pump - the smaller one operates the guage.

Re: Oil pressure gauge
hey i was having the same problem - except i drive a 4bbl trans am
i had a friend install a new sending unit (so i dunno where it is) and it seemed to be working fine and it just crapped out on me one day.
it rests at the bottom, but when i turn the car on it flips all the way to the other side at full pressure and stays there
and ideas?
any and all help would be appreciated!

Re: Oil pressure gauge
If it pops out for some reason it will do it. I know that if a wire melts and grounds out it'll do that. hope that's a start. I'm not sure about the lg4 being the same, but I think it connects to a fitting up top in the back of the motor.

Re: Oil pressure gauge
For your car I believe that its behind the intake manifold. Look to the right of your distributor, it should be a cylindrical metal thing, with a wire on the end of it.
Re: Oil pressure gauge
Would the SES light come on if the sending unit were faulty? That is, the computer would sense it and throw the light. If no light, then perhaps the gauge itself isn't plugged in correctly or is the culprit.

Re: Oil pressure gauge
I don't think a bad sending unit will trigger an SES light - I've never seen mine go on because of a bad OPSU.
