The hazards work leading me to believe that the bulbs are not bad and I just changed the flasher and it still doesn't work

Re: Need urgent help with blinkers

Ewww - ok, maybe the signal switch is bad - wait for better advise, but you might have to rent a steering wheel puller to get in there and replace the switch.

Re: Need urgent help with blinkers

I kinda almost have the same problem!!! When I'm driving(in motion) my turn signals work fine and blink at the proper rate. But when I come to a stop, the blinking rate really slows down and it almost stops blinking! And YES I have replaced the "flasher relay thing" The only thing I have noticed different is that when I'm at a stop, I'm ldling at 400-450rpms and when I'm cruising, its at 900-1200rpms.

It seems to me that I'm not getting enough volts from my Alternater at low rpms, causing the Flasher to slow down due to the Low Volts!

What do you guys think????(HELP ME) Thankx, Paul.

Re: Need urgent help with blinkers

Oh, one more thing. When I bought the "Flasher/relay", I had a choice of 8 Lamp or 10 Lamp Electronic Flasher, so I bought the 10 Lamp. Why? I don't know!

Old Flasher part #: Wagner 552 12v
New Flasher part #: Tridon HD12 12v

Re: Need urgent help with blinkers

ok first off, for the original poster, a conventional flasher works with load, and an electronic flasher works regardless of load, what you replaced in the "convenience center" was the hazard flasher seeing as the flasher should be located a little higher pinned to a bracket under the dash, replace THAT ONE with an electronic flasher. Paul, your problem is related to the charging system, it would seem to me that your probalby not charging at idle, you can have 2 culprits for this, a bad alternator or bad grounds, personally the car is 20+ years old, I would definately swing towards your grounds. make yourself some new ground cables. Battery to block, battery to chassis, block to chassis. ake sure it all gets a bite for fresh metal, so clean any rust off. if that does not solve your issue, you are in for a new alternator

Reminds me of a quote in an older Chevy High Performance mag I have kicking around somewhere: "12V at the battery means 13V out of the alternator." Our cars commonly charge in the ballpark of 14 to 15 VDC. Either your alternator is on its way out, or you have some other problems somewhere. Definitely check your alternator to battery wires (or the junction block by the headlights if you haven't upgraded your charging wire), the sensing wire for the voltage regulator (the big red one), and, again, your engine grounds.

Re: Need urgent help with blinkers

Thank you very much, Maverick H1L!!! I've owned my car now since the summer of 2000, and its always done this(blinker problem). But I can't remember if I have changed the Alt yet! If I did, it would have been a reman from Canadian Tire(kinda like a Canadian AutoZone!) I've had a feeling that my Alt is the problem here. I think that at Low RPMS, the Alt does not produce enough Amps or Volts.

A buddy of mine has a 91 Syclone, and he got his Alt rebuilt to produce more Amps or Volts at lower rpms then a stock Alt. (Ex. Stock-30% A/V's at low rpms, 70% A/V's at high rpms). So what he did was something like 60% A/V's at low rpms and 40% at high rpms).

I Will check all my wires and grounds.....But my car IS VERY Clean under the hood....NO RUST!!! But will double check anyway!

Paul.

Re: Need urgent help with blinkers

i pull 14.3 volts at the battery at idle, and 14.7 at the alternator at idle, i have all fresh cables and grounds running a CS-144 140 amp cadillac alternator. 12volts while running is NOT good, your putting out only enough to keep her alive, that alt is probably crap

Re: Need urgent help with blinkers

Hi Guys,

I have a similar issue with my '85 TA. I have a circuit diagram but I recently bought the car and don't know where the flasher module is located.

Thanks,
Steven

It may also be on a clip attached to the steering column... Either way, it's down near the ALDL and convienience center.

I made it easier for myself to find it... When I had the convenience center hanging down a while back, I noticed there was a spot in it (next to the hazard flasher) for the turn signal flasher. So, what I did was to take the terminals out of the flasher connector, lengthen the wires, and put the terminals in the convenience center, where I know I can find the thing when I need to, instead of having to hunt for it under the dash (no clip... just hung loose when I bought the car in '03).

Re: Need urgent help with blinkers

Thanks guys, I actually saw that but the way it was stated made it seem like he wasn't sure where exactly the puller was, now I know better. I'll look around tomorrow to verify, but would I actually need to rent a puller? Is it something that in-depth? I am used to working on newer cars where that module is located in the engine compartment. Oh well, I guess that is what I get for getting an older model.
