temp gauge sensor help please !!!!!!!!

One of the old owners of my 87 rs limited 2.8ltr v6 replaced the sensor for the temp gauge with a bolt and left the wire hangin around what a knuckle head. My problem is there are two bolts right next two each other and I dont know which is wich. one is a hex head the other is a bolt. Its the one under the power steering pump next to the head thanks

Temp sender should be mounted in the cyl head. Its brass and has a hex base for removal/installation purposes. Maybe the PO didnt put a bolt in, but instead broke the contact point off the sender
