Parking lamps

Probably gonna be buying that 1992 Pontiac Firebird I asked about if it was a good deal or not in another thread. One thing I didn't understand however was how come whenever I tried to turn the parking lights on and leave the headlights off and down they would turn on anyway? I had a 1991 Firebird a while back and swear I remember being able to run the parking lamps without having the pop up headlights up. I made sure to leave the actual headlight switch off but turn just the parking lamps on but the headlights just kept going on. Why? I want to be able to run the parking lamps with the fog lights without the pop up headlights sometimes.

Re: Parking lamps

Nobody has any ideas? I ended up buying the car and it's annoying me I can't turn the parking lights on without the pop up headlights going on. I want to be able to run the parking lights and fog lights together without the pop ups going on.

Yes of course you should be able to turn on just the “parking” lights and save the headlights for night, and foglights for fog like they’re intended.

There’s no telling what stuff the PO might have put in line to keep the headlights on.

Some people are scared to drive without headlights or think foglights are driving lights.

So a with a voltmeter or test light
(the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester)
check for an unwanted connection between the
yellow wire and brown wire from the headlight switch.

Also, it could be a defective switch.

Happy Racing!
