Changed distributor cap, now the car grounds out
Over the past few days, I have had nothing but problems with my car. It hasn't started since tuesday. First I had the starter die. Then the starter enable relay. Then the ignition coil. Then the distributor cap.
So I replaced all of that, and now every time I try to start the car, I lose all electrical stuff. If I wiggle the distributor cap around for a few minutes, I can get the interior lights to turn on, and I get electricity back to everything. Problem is, as soon as it turns not even half a crank (I would assume when the rotor turns) the car loses everything.
I have absolutely no idea why. The cap is on there tight, I can't find any bad ground to the cap.
At this point, I'm at the end of my rope. If it's not an easy fix, I'm just going to get rid of the car. I have spent so much time and money trying to fix it, I'm tired of it, it's a waste.

sounds like you got a dead short somewhere near the back of the motor..or a loose power or ground wire.
Usually when a car looses full power of everything ..its easy to find by wiggling wires.start from the battery and work your way around...when you hear or see any small electrical sparks..your very close.
also check that the power wire going down to the starter isnt cut or touching metal.Good luck

Wow. So my hot wire coming from my battery was a tiny bit loose. It had enough of a connection that it tested OK, but when the engine moved during cranking, it lost connection.
But, after almost 5 days, a lot of hours, and a lot of money on parts, my car is finally back on the road.

9 times out of 10 it is haha. Getting to the connection, however, wasn't easy. It wasn't the connection at the battery, it was the other end, which, as I'm sure you know, on an entirely stock engine, is tucked away in a place no normal hands can fit.
