I did an engine swap and now my engine will not shut off with the key. What did I do?

 

Wont shut off like it just keeps running like normal, or it sputters and tries to stay running for a few seconds, but eventually shuts down after turning off the key?

 

It runs normally affter key is off, i have to dump the clutch in gear to kill it

 

Is it a mechanical pump, or electric? It sounds like you have a mech pump and your distributor wired in to a constant 12v source instead of an IGN 12v source. It should be wired to an IGN 12v source so when you turn the key off, it not longer gets power and the engine dies. If its an electric pump then the only way for it to keep running is if both the dizzy and pump are still receiving power after you turn the key off.

 

also, if you start it up again and it doesnt shut off, unplug the 12v wire going to the distributer instead of dumping the clutch.

 

Yea, dumping the clutch to kill it is just asking for something to break.

 

I agree with the "you probably used a constant 12v source" theory.

What wire did you use for the distributor?

 

If it is factory EFI then the fuel pressure switch at rear of block will keep 12V on the pump so long as engine running ( is wired in parallel with the pump relay)
Only way to stop engine is kill Ign

 

I forgot about that switch....

 

How about msd box getting feedback from the alt. If its running a box
