Ignition wiring help
Ignition wiring help
OK i have an ignition thats loosing voltage..I have it narrowed down to inside the car..I need to know where some wires go so i dont have to cut my harness up..The yellow wire on the start enable relay feeds a green wire with a white stripe..I need to know where the green wire is going..I know at some point it becomes a purple wire which runs to the starter..I would also like to know where that purple wire is coming from...Thanks guys

Re: Ignition wiring help
First of all, what make, model and engine option? The green and white wire goes to the PRNDL switch at the shifter(auto), or to the clutch safety switch(manual). From either of these switches, the purple wire runs to the starter.
Re: Ignition wiring help
I apologize i knew i was forgetting something...Car is an 89 Trans am..Was an auto but the PO put a 5 speed in it..The car has no NS Switch ...Is it possible to cut the grren and white wire from the start enable relay and splice it into the purple wire or would this create an issue?

Maybe this will help: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=38
This is (should be) a VATS car - have you bypassed VATS? Maybe you have an issue with the starter enable relay.

Re: Ignition wiring help
Thanks i was looking for that article i couldnt find it...Starter relay is working properly ..I believe it to be the the pnd switch that is screwing me up...I have 2 volt drop occuring somewhere its not the purple wire and its not the yellow power into the relay..i may just go right from the relay to the starter wire and remove the pnd switch...As i said before the PO put a 5 speed in an auto car and didnt seem to care about the safetys..So im basically cleaning up his mess ..Thanks for the info
