Engine Compartment Wires

This is my first time posting so PLEASE forgive me if this has already been brought up. I have a 85 Camaro and im putting in a 383 with no a/c,heat, or emissions so my question is what wires do i need to keep? I know i will need the starter and alternator wires but after that i cant think of anything. Ive purchased all new autometer gauges and sensors and a electric fan from a Pontiac Fiero which i can wire. My goal is to have a clean engine bay so any help would be great. Thank You in advance

Re: Engine Compartment Wires

ASSUMING YOU ARE USING AFTERMARKET NON-CC CARB ...

You pretty much need everything from the drivers side firewall connector/harness. That is all basic lights, wipers, starter, gauges wiring.

Pass side wiring (from pass fender at firewall) can all go out. There might be a few wires that run from pass side to driver side (through the loom at rear of engine over the bellhousing), you can cut thos on driver side and fish them out through that rear loom. Then, tuck all those pass side wires in the fenderwell in tact until AFTER your swap is done and working correctly.

IF YOU ARE USING THE FACTORY CARB SETUP ON THE 383 ...

You want to keep most all the wiring, and pick out the few wires from A/C and whatever else you are deleting.

The big rule of thumb - don't cut it until you are 200% sure you don't need it - it's easy to cut, it's a PITA to replace.

Re: Engine Compartment Wires

Thanks for the advice. I have all new autometer gauges so im thinking about removing those wires as well. I also read another thread about the C100 connector and i was wondering if it would be possible to trace the wires that i dont need and pull them from the fuse box?

Here is the thread i was talking about
