HI,,i need a new alternator for my 1986 iroc z28.Its not stock,,Its all carbed up..and has a 350 in it with 8970010 stamped on the back.SOOO..i went to ADVANCE auto parts and tried explaining that to them..and after 45 minutes of computer searching,,they could not find me one.They found one that was close i guess,,but the pully had a V shape to it. but my old one has a pully that takes a flat type of belt.They said i would have to change the pully.(is that a difficult task??).....I really cant believe that it is this difficult to find an alt for a 350 engine...I need the kind that sits up top on the passenger side,has 1 wire plug,,and takes 2 bolts to remove it.Can anyone PLEEEEEAAASSSE point me in the right direction? lol or provide a link? I dont know too much yet and could use some help. I really never thought that it would be a difficult task to find one...or is it just the guy at ADVANCE feeding me some bull? thanks in advance! my car is grounded till i get an ALT!!

 

order a stock one for your car with the HD electrical package- that should come with the proper pulley.. or better yet- take your existing alternator to a local rebuilder and get it rebuilt right. it might cost a little more than one from the local AutoPepZone, but it will be a quality part and warranty work will be very easy to get done if it's necessary. also, if you have any problems at all with anything related to the alternator and charging system, they will be willing and able to help you figure it out. also, you would be keeping your money in your local economy.

 

At minimum, you just want a typical GM 100A 10si alt, most speed shops carry them and that's over here, so u guys should be okay! Or Summit, Jegs, ebay etc -choose yur poison 1 or 3 wire, amps etc eg:

Got a nice Chinese 140A chomie myself off ebay several years ago, hasn't even blown up or anything yet Had to change the v-belt pulley off that; just undo the big nut on the front.

 

okay.thank you.i wish i could take it to get rebuilt,,but that might pose a problem,,because the bolt hole that goes onto my tensioner on my case itself,,is broken.(probly why the bearings went bad anyway) what does HD electrical package mean?..and that link you sent treefiddy,,those alts all look like they will work fine,,they even have a bolt hole in the back for that adapter thing i mentioned.

 

Nevermind,,it wasnt that hard...it was just the parts counter guys at ADVANCE auto parts on the day i went in.Seems all they wanted to do was type on thier computer and tell me they could not find anything...i went somewhere else and had a new alt. in 10 mins..i was out the door...i knew it shouldnt have been that difficult....unbelievable amount of my time was wasted...all because thier computer said i should have a 305..and they were stumped when i told em i had a 350??...unreal
