intermittent start / no start (no crank)

been reading different threads on here, mainly "vats" related, but my problem is intermittent - never know when it's gonna start - or not. it will start every time on the first start, but if i stop somewhere and go to start it back up, the likelihood of it not starting becomes reality. seems like more of a "heat soak" symptom with the solenoid, but changed the starter out at one point because of it. also changed the nuetral safety switch. when i try to start it, i can hear the starter relay clicking. i've read on here that the relay can be bypassed, but not sure if it's the culprit if i can hear it clicking? or is this a possible vats issue? chips in the keys look pretty worn out, but... getting very frustrated with this, tho. also been told that if an attempt is made to crank and it does not crank, then you gotta wait a minute or longer for it to reset before another attempt is made - sometimes in doing that, it has worked...

Car Is Not Cranky . . . . SO I AM !!!!!!

Use voltmeter or test light (the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) to probe the wire going to the solenoid power input.

Make the wire long enuff to bring into the cockpit.

Now, when you try to crank, is there power?

Happy Racing!
