Need help IDing wiper wires
Hello all,
Little backstory on my car: Previous owner thought he knew how to wire stuff (he didn't
). When he couldn't get the wipers to work in the car, he started cutting wires, and even wired in a toggle switch for the wipers, which also didn't work. This guy also used a doorbell button mounted on the dash to make the horn work! Ok, no more ranting....
I'm now in the process of rewiring the wipers the RIGHT way, but this thing is so torn to pieces, I'm having quite a tough time getting everything sorted out. Add the fact that the car is an 83 and the color of the wires are all faded out and I've got myself one heck of a puzzle. Going to the local junkyard this morning was unsuccessful as the oldest thirdgen they had was somewhere in the late 80s.
So here's what I've got so far. This connector was cut VERY VERY close so I wired this up this way. Again, the colors were faded almost completely, so please tell me if the colors aren't in the correct spots. White was used where I believe the gray is supposed to go, and red was used in place of purple. These were just the colors I had in my garage

These are the three bare wires in the general area of the wiper motor. I understand gray and purple (both faded), but the third one is white. Shouldn't I be looking for a dark green wire?

That white wire connects to the washer motor connector?

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this. Does anybody have pictures of how the wipers are SUPPOSED to be wired? Diagrams only help so much when the wires aren't there in the first place. Any help is appreciated!

I know they only help 'so much',.... but at least it's something to look at !
This diagram is for a PULSE wiper moror. A NON-PULSE wiper motor does NOT have a Green Wire; all other connections appear to be the same. ( sorry: don't have that exact schematic right now ! )
Does your Wiper/Turn Stalk on the column have DELAY settings?? I wonder if the Previous Owner the tried to install the "wrong" replacement wiper motor sometime in the past.......

Hope it helps - if only a little !

I knew I was forgetting something in my post!

The previous owner told me he swapped out the steering column for a tilt column. I'm not positive, but I don't think the old column had delay controls because I don't see any bare green wires anywhere around the wiper motor or under the dash. The wiper stalk in the car now does NOT have delay controls. Thanks for the diagram, though!

Re: Need help IDing wiper wires
SOLVED!!!
It took some new parts, but I did finally figure this one out. The washer pump assembly was bad (and missing pieces), and the switch shorted out during the process of diagnosing this. I have since soldered and fixed the wiring mess you see here, but for future reference, here is a diagram of how the wires are laid out. Maybe someone can use it to solve their own wiring nightmares.
