noob question about flasher unit

i feel like dork for even having to ask....(and yes, i did a search)

I'm having a small blinker issue that i know you guys can help me solve.
My passenger blinkers work just fine, but me driver's side just lights up and stays on: no blinkie.

I assume it's the flasher unit (i think it's under the dash by the fuse panel. Anyone got a pic?) but i wasn't sure if there's one for each side or if a faulty single unit could allow one side to work but not the other.

The flasher relies on a certain circuit drain ( through the bulbs ) in order to flash correctly.

As it flashes correctly on one side ,the flasher unit is fine and you must have a problem with the bulbs , wiring or ground on the other side

Re: noob question about flasher unit

thanks.
I'll check the bulbs out.

i haven't done anything to the wires, so it must be a bulb somewhere.

I would make sure all of your grounds are clean and tight. There are a couple of small ones on the front section that are easy to break.

Re: noob question about flasher unit

it looks like my driver's side, rear, side marker is out. Any idea on how to change that bulb? it looks like i have to take out a couple plastic (interior) panels, but i was hoping not. I don't see access to it from underneath.

Yup - You'll have to remove the spare tire cover and the rear hatch panel. The plastic lens nuts on the drivers side are kind of a PITA to remove, but you can reach all of them by opening the rear 'glovebox' and reaching thru there. ( I just had to replace 2 rear 'park light' bulbs in my Z28 this week ! )

unfortuneatly, my rear "glovebox" on the driver's side, still has the box in it, so i can't reach through it.
Looks like i'll have to start removing panels....

Re: noob question about flasher unit

There's only 1 big plastic nut that you need to reach thru the glovebox to get to,.... and that nut is EASY to get to. ( your hand can easily reach over the top of the cardboard box and touch the nut - no problem )

The 2 that are 'harder' to access with are the 2 that are placed right at the back edge of the driver side plastic panel. You've got to flex the panel a little so that you can turn those 2 nuts. Those 2 nuts can cause some frustration - but still MUCH better ( & MUCH faster ) to deal with it that way rather than removing the entire drivers side plastic panel + the other panels that need to come off in order fo the drivers hatch panel to come out !!

Re: noob question about flasher unit

do you have pictures of what you're talking about?
i don't know of any nuts back there. Why do i need to undo nuts to change the bulb?

My glovebox is still intact, so i can't put my hand through it.
