Altenator wiring ? - please help!

I am having some troubles with my electric choke and read that the gauge in the dash is showing trouble with the alt.

I checked the alt and realized that there is one wire going to nowhere
any Idea what to do with this?

the car was originally a ´87 LG4 and was swapped to a ´84 L69
Maybe cause of this there is a wire going nowhere?

Re: Altenator wiring ? - please help!

IIRC the 87 was the first year for the 3 plug alternator ????

This is what the early, 2-wire Alternator wiring looks like.

Power to the plug came from the post on the back of the Alt. The Brown wire leads to the "CHOKE" warning indicator thru the C100 Firewall connector. (Many times this brown wire corrodes at the plug and breaks causing an indicator light problem.)

I'm not positive about the 87 Alt connecor,..... I assume that your still using the 87 Engine harness ? You might want to check into it so your sure about each of the factory wires leading to/from the style 87 ALt.

Edited :

Here is the schematic for your 87 Carb Alternator,.......

Here is the schematic for your 87 CHOKE Light,.......

Here is the schematic for the 86 Carb CHOKE light,.......

It looks like the choke heater relay is located near the battery in the 87 cars. Check the color of the wirs to that relay to be sure it's the right one. ( 86 and earlier had the choke heater relay mounted in the under-dash "Convenience Center".)
