1984 z28 carbureted 355. Old ignition cylinder is trashed so I got a new cylinder from autozone and it works great and turns the sector (128) but the rack piece (126) is broke off and the car does nothing when we turn the ignition cylinder. Should we just go push/switch start? If so what's an easy way to run it? Or would changing the rack piece out be better if that would even fix the problem?
That rod pull/pushes the actual ignition switch, so if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't try to cut and splice the wires or you'll likely wind up in more trouble than you're in now.
That piece is in every column, so it should be pretty easy to get, or just swap in another column. Swapping the column is pretty easy. Hardest part is likely the bolt at the top of the collapsible shaft in the engine compartment since there is so much stuff in the way
