sorting out the ignition wiring harness

I posted a couple of related questions in the general engine tech forum, but felt it would be a good idea to also post here.

My car:
1986 Trans Am, 1969 350, headers, quadrajet, T5 transmission, no emissions required (no air pump, no cats, no O2 sensors, no canister).
Situation:
Engine and all AC components were removed by previous owner and wiring harness unattached.
So Far:
1. I hooked up the double wire connector to the alternator double terminal.
2. I ran a heavy gauge red wire from the alternator "battery" terminal to the "marine" style positive battery terminal.
3. I installed a new mini starter with the black cable from the "battery" terminal at the starter to the positive battery terminal.
4. There is a 12 gauge purple wire coming from the firewall (B4, C100) that ends up at the right front engine bay near the battery.
5. In the same harness there are four other wires that end up near the battery.

4. Sounds like the starter solenoid wire. Should go to the S terminal on the starter.
5. What colors, and what connector(s) on them?

You were right. I got the car started. Now I can go ahead with the rest of the wiring harness, one wire at a time.

Re: sorting out the ignition wiring harness

The red wire at the double wire connector at the alternator is not attached to anything, yet my multimeter shows 14+ volts at the battery, as if the alternator is working properly. Should that wire go to the positive battery terminal?

Re: sorting out the ignition wiring harness

It probably belongs on the output stud, along with the big fat red wire.
