I think the 89 has the oil gauge that is not detachable correct? I don't have any of those. But I have a couple of the earlier ones that have an oil gauge that is separate. It will fit 82-89 cars. Let me know if you want one.

Absolutely. I only need the chip if it's from a 90-92 car. It's plugged into the lower right hand corner of the cluster.

You may have to drop the steering column down by unbolting the 2 nuts holding it to the dash. but some people can remove the cluster face without dropping the column. once you remove the black and clear cluster face plates, the tach chip just pulls straight out of its socket. It's located in the bottom right of the cluster next to the bulbs in a 45* orientation. get some pliers and gently wiggle it free pulling straight out. you don't have to remove the tach as the picture shows.

Does that chip control the tach only or does it control all the gauges in the cluster? Reason I ask is just to educate myself.

hey man. I went to the junkyard and got a working tach/ speedo circuit board. the issue is that I have a v6 and these came from a v8 tach. so it reads high. could I trade you for a v6 one?

I will have to see if I have any V6 tachs. I don't think I do, but I can convert a V8 tach for you or you could send me that one to convert to V6 for you. Let me know what you prefer.

Unfortunately not. I have a couple of speedo chips I pulled from the parts lot if you're interested. I don't have any idea if they work or not.

My Tach is certainly readying higher then it should. When you do this repair or swap do you do anything to the oil pressure gauge?

Do you have anything for an 86 iroc? Mine has the 5500 redline, with the 80 PSI oil guage. I'm not sure if it matters, but I'm not running the stock 305. I have a 350 out of a 91 corvette in it.

No. I only repair the tachometer circuit. The oil gauge gets power and ground through the tach circuit but not the pressure signal.
