I've gotten an e-mail from SDPC, and they got their TPI engine to rate at 400hp at the flywheel now. They said 350 is very possible at the wheels. However, aftermarket runners and TB only gave them 4 extra horse over stock...So, it's looking more and more like I'm gonna be going w/ this combo...

Also, if they had gotten 400 w/ pretty much stock TPI, what would be expected by putting on, let's say, a Super Ram or Mini Ram? And, since they are not emissions legal, would it still be possible to pass emissions w/ the sniffer? As, IL doesn't use a visual test.

With a "miniram" on top I think it will put out great # in the track and dyno? 86IROCNJ has this same set up but havent heard from him yet, hope hes car does good times? Either fo this engines should do great , its just a matter of how much money you can spend.

Yeah, I kind of want to keep the installation to a minimum, as to why I'm thinking of going w/ the TPI setup. I'd rather NOT do miniram, as the emissions thing concerns me (I know, it sucks), plus, I'd have to use all new wiring, correct?? Although, as I was talking to someone, they were saying it would pass emissions as long as you have a good O2 and Cat and is running good...but, w/ those setups, they don't have provisions for EGR, so how COULD they pass? I'm trying to get the most from that SDPC TPI then...I still think 350rwhp IS possible w/ it.
This would be FANTASTIC news since they only thing that sorta kept me from buying the current 360 SDPC Crate motor is the HP number. If there is a new version with 400hp, I'm very interested...
The 357HP model utilized a LT4 HOT Cam, vortech heads and a caprice (pursuit) long block along with their custom intake manifold for TPI's. I wonder what changes they've made...probably heads?

Well, if someone knows if I could get 350rwhp w/ this thing, PLEASE let me know...I guess if it WERE different components, I could tell them to put what I want on there before they ship it to me...
I will post what they told me on here...so, everyone can see:
"This intake will work with any runner / upper plenum combination. With the aftermarket runners and throttle body we only gained 4 hp over stock. The hp numbers are at the flywheel, not the ground. We have found that after dynoing we made some changes that have gotten the engine closer to 400 hp.
You will have to get a custom chip that will raise the minimum idle from 550 rpm to 750 rpm. You will also need a 3000 rpm stall converter. You will have to contact the sales department for pricing and availability on the other TPI parts."
That's basically the story...Now, to know what, "some changes" are, that would be awesome. I would definately like to know how to get 350rwhp or even MORE from that engine w/ TPI.

mee too. Because of the need for a high stall and idle adjustment, I have a feeling this thing makes it's power above 3000rpm. I'd hate to loose the low end grunt of my TPI. I'd spring for the 357hp version - but I'd love to see both dyno graphs - installed in a car that is.
Yeah, same here...maybe someone will give us some insight on this one...Also, what is the stock stall speed? I did think that 3000 was a bit high, but I'm still not sure on what it would do differently, being high.
Would the Fastburn 385 from SDPC be a better choice? Could I put TPI on there, or would I Need like Ram Jet, etc.? It doesn't look like I could make that one emissions legal, although, I like the numbers it puts out.

i have a friend with a vortec 355 with zz4 cam and 1.5rr, and the tpi intake... he is making 340hp 410ftlbs at the wheels... he is running a stock converter, custom chip, and slp 1-3/4" headers ...

Steve: It isn't an EXCLUSIVE 400hp TPI Engine...the guy told me they tested it and w/ different mods, they were able to get it to around 400hp...so, don't blame me, I'm just saying what the guy told me...lol

Please let me know the details on that setup...those numbers are pretty close to what I want to get. I basically want to pass Cobra's...and also run with or smoke LS1's...BUT, I think w/ 350rwhp on the STREET, no one will want to touch me.
