383 suggestions
hey guys. i wanna get an engine together thats makes around 450hp at a low rpm. any suggestions on parts; heads, cam carb?
i want a 355 but the hp would come at a higher rmp so probably a 383. but i need help with parts combos. maybe AFR heads and BG carb for sure.
anyone wanna throw their 2 cents in????
thanx

Cubic inches.
There is no other choice. HP = torque at 5252 RPMs, and peak torque is typically roughly the same as CID. So, if you want peak HP in the 5500 RPM range, you need lots of displacement. It also helps to have lots of valve lift.
Why not go for a Motown shortblock? Available in 400-434 CID sizes. Not cheap, but reliable horsepower never is.

Is a blower out of the question? That will make 450hp a pretty easy goal on a 350 or 383.
