Newbie question or 2
Hey guys I am new here & so far looks like this place is full on info.Anyways I am college student and I will be getting a grant for like $1200.00 dollars and with that I want to get a roller chassis and make it drivable.I have been talking to a guy about a 305 camaro with 700r4 tranny but the engine knocks and my question is What all do I have to have to swap out the tpi 305 to a carb 350?
Even if I do not get his car I will probably still go this route because there is always third gens in the local classifieds fairly cheap and tons of 350's fs around here. Most of the ones in the local trader need an engine so my question still applies here.My teacher said something about a small flywheel and a big flywheel found on 305's and 350's will this affect me in doing this swap? Will I have any issues with flexplates?
Thanks,
-Nathan-

GA Engine Swap....
Nathan,
No one has replied to the thread you started a few days ago so I'll try to help with some info and some of my own personal Ideas/opinions.
Yes. There can be some issues with flex plates AND differences in engines (i.e. 1-Piece vs 2-Piece Seals) that can make your life a little more complicated. You can get over those hurdles without much trouble one way or the other. You may have to find the correct flex plate, or you may already have it depending upon how old (or new) the motor you intend to transplant is. We'll need to know the age of your intended "Rolling Chassis/Engine" purchase and the serial number information on the "Transplant engine" to give you more helpful details.
Considering this is apparently a "School Project" I'm personally surprised you would be permitted to change the intake system on the vehicle. Also, Carbs are "ANTIQUE" technology....why would you want to Practice or learn Carb skills if you intend to persue a future in Automotive Technology?
You definatley have some Federal Emissions Rules your "BENDING" with that planned change over. Being a GA resident, you may have (or soon will have) some emissions testing requirements! [IMPO] You might want to think about that swap a little more thoroughly in that regard.
Final thoughts.......
[IMPO] The TPI Set-Up is the best intake system provided on any of the ThirdGens. It's Relaibility, Fuel Economy, and Power are superior to all the other systems (CFI, TBI, CARB). Swapping in a 350 and retaining the TPI is definately much more complicated (with required PROM changes etc.) but the LEARNING process would certainly provide you with more up-to-date & more valuable skills.
