donor car
hey guys i just bought a donor trans am that has a 305 tpi in it and i have a few questions...
i know the basic things to go with the swap like the mounts being moved, brake line, suspension, and mostly everything else but im confused on where the wiring harness comes in.
my car is an 86 firebird v6 and the donor is a 86 trans am
the wiring for the ecu.. does the ecu harness come out in 1 piece? and how do i go about removing it?
the engine harness...? do i leave all the wires connected to the engine and remove the harness from where it is connected at the firewall?
fusebox? is there anything that needs to be done with this inorder to make this swap happen?
my friend owns a car shop and is letting me use all his tools but hes an oldschool guy and mainly works on 60-70's carburated cars and i dont think he will be able to help me very much but i have everything that is need to complete the swap.
any info will be greatly apprectiated..

Re: donor car
The last swap I did like yours I swapped the entire harness from end to end. That includes using the T/A hatch and ditching your 86 high mount third brake light.
Did you preview the V6 to V8 sticky? It will help as well.
The last time I pulled a harness to swap them I had to pull the right hand fender on both cars. The ECM interface wires went from under the hood to behind that fender and then inside the cabin from behind that fender. There were still a few wires in the ECM plug that I had to remove because they went a different direction inside the cabin. Then I had to re-pin the harness back together and it worked fine.
The book that saved my life (and I talk about it alot) is the Chilton's Total Car Care Manual for Firebird 1982-1992. The wiring diagrams in this book will save your life, I swear!
don't forget that you need the V8 tach as well or else you have to put a resistor in your wiring harness to make it work!!
