part # for engine from GM
part # for engine from GM
I cant seem to find a part number for the 350 service engine (sb) that will fit my 88TPI. I have called a few dealerships, and they are not the brightest crayons in the box. I dont think that they make an engine that is for an Fbody, but a throttle body truck block is the same thing, so whats the problem?? did anyone find this so i can have them look it up???
thanks

Hve you checked ot the Goodwrench 350? It has the two piece rear seal but it would work in yours. The GM Tech reps told me it will be fine in mine, I'll just have to change the flexplate. You can check it out at http://www,sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...id=128&pid=110

I emailed GM Tech center and they told me it would work fine. they didn't tell me that I would need a flexplate for a motor with a two piece rear seal crank (the crank is different) but I knew that from people on this board. the only thing that will be different is the heads but I dont know enough about the TPI to tell you for sure about that. Scoggin Dickey Performance Center should be able to hook you up though.

I had the local pontiac dealer put in what is basically the 255 hp truck motor which has a one piece rear seal, and better heads than the LO5 caprice motor, although I did have the cam changed to a better one even though it is a flat tappet type.
I tried to get info by e-mail from Scroggin Dickey, but they never responded.
I only have about 150 miles on the motor, but it is very capable of smokin em, and runs better than a stock formula 350 from the same era.
Cheers
Richard

The angle on the intake bolts for '88 is diffenent than the Goodwrench heads. You could swap the TPI heads on, or grind the 2 center intake bolts to match the diff angle. The cam isn't roller so you need a thrust button and a different rollers to fit in the block. and a different flexplate.

ok, i figured out what i am going to do. I emailed spdc2000, and they gave me a part number and a price for a 350short block. I am going to take my current heads and have them ported, and put in a zz4 cam....hopefully that will be it....
