Best value,I guess, best reliability manufacturer/company.I want to spend about $2000.00...I wanted the GM 330 horse crate motor, but I don't want to hassle the egr problems, due to the vortech heads, because I live in So. Cal and have had to go to Test Only smog inspections the last 2 times

That is a hard question to answer, "best" is different for everyone. I did extensive research on getting a 383 for 89 iroc. In the end I wound up getting an engine from www.golensengineservice.com . I got a 365hp 350 from them. What I found was that unless you build it yourself, there isnt really any good 383s out there for anywhere near the price range your looking for. For the money, you may be better off getting a good 350, there is a much bigger selection of those to choose from. I have heard good things about the golens engines and I really hope they are right. I just fired mine up a few days ago for the first time. I did find a few good and very powerful 383's, one was at www.beckracingengines.com . The problem with most of them though, is the cost of beefing up the car to handle it. There is a lot to think about there. That budget may be quite limiting for what your looking for, but there are some good looking buys at www.goautocenter.com .
Let us all know if you find any good deals out there.
Good luck,
Mike

as for the best its hard to say i found that doing my own was best after beefing up the whole car to hold it and beefing to motor with two gas sucking 850 double pumpers its was cheaper for me then buying a crate o dropped about 1500 bigones but i also used alot of connections and mayneed parts i had stashed back from building up other peoples rides. but if you find the best one for you let me know and good luck
