quick ? for common knowledge
ok, just for common knowledge. a 305 w/ factory 350 heads would significantly decrease the compression ratio of the engine. I agree, but wouldnt that help the air starved engine breath alot better, hencethereforth, wouldnt the engine run better? im a little confused on the subject. technical answers and numbers would be greatly appreciated. The question popped in my head while reading another post.

Try #2 (first reply lost by the system):
Don't assume "350 heads" will flow better than say LG4 heads. I had a '71 GMC 3/4 ton w/4-bolt main 350 that had 1.72" intake valves. Trust me, those heads would NOT be an improvement on a 305.
Some have put Vortec heads on a 305 without shaving down to 58cc. With cam and exhaust improvements, you very well may have more power than before. But, with some porting work on the 305 heads and the cam and exhaust improvements, you'd also have more power.
