Re: 355 swap
what size cam did you use? i just bought a 350 out of a 95 and im rebuilding it for my 92 rs but im unsure of what heads and cam i should use. any suggestions?
Re: 355 swap
well depends the two corispond to eachother. you want to make sure ur heads can handle the lift of the cam and do so efficiently otherwise its kinda just usless. i am runing a lunati voodoo .489 lift intake and .504 lift exhaust. its a great runnin cam with a power band of 1800-6500 and i love it! now i aimed for a lower begining to my power band due to my manual trans. if you have an auto a good place to have ur cam kick in is just befor ur stall. for instance if ur runnin a 2500 stall run a cam tha kicks in at 2200. now im pretty much peaked my heads out and am plannin on new ones after chassis and suspension mods and prolly a tko lol. but the best way to choose is 1. cost 2. power goals and 3. compatability. when i step up to aluminum heads im going to run 1.6 rockers to gain some more lift and a little power while not increasing the duration to drastically. lower duration= lower starting power band. the best lift to duration combos are hydrolic roller lifters but you better be ready to shell out some cash. my cam only cost me 110 bucsk then the double roller timing chain, heavy duty springs and lifters and pushrods are about 40 to 50 bucks a peice. i went complete lunati with my valve train and am extremly impressed with it. it sounds great and runs even better! good luck with ur build and if ya need someone to bounce ideas off from im always willin to help

Re: 355 swap
Where did u get ur heads from? I'm debatingif I should use a set of ported and polished 305 heads. But I heard that mainly increases tq and I wanna increase hp as well.
Re: 355 swap
mine actuallly came with my motor. i got really lucky and got a 355 with 20k miles and the heads had less then 10k for 300. id look for some 2.02 1.6 camle humps or something in that area. unless you can aford aluminum

Re: 355 swap
So I found out today after tearing down my block that I have l98 heads. Will these work pretty good? I am trying to figure out what all I need to swap bc I wanna do the 355 with tbi. I know I have to change knock sensor and esm will 350 injectors work and I am trying to find a chip out of a old caprice. Thanks for the help.
Re: 355 swap
well a master on the tpi i am not, but that said i do know the stock l98s put down some fairly impresive numbers and that you can fit the tpis with lt1 or ls1 injectiors. if it s a tpi ur better off sticking to tpi if its tbi. well my opinion is to swap one way or the other cause tbi isnt the greatest for power but people do put good numbers down thats just my 2 cents. and yes i do know that lsi 1s and tpis both have throttle bodies im talking about the intermediate carbstyle v8s not those style just for clarity lol

Re: 355 swap
im stuck where im at for the next 2.5years and i just drive the car mostly on the weekends and i dont access to mant tools now so im trying to decide on whether to stick with the tbi, or jus swap it out for a carb. id like to keep the tbi bc there isnt many 355 tbis.
Re: 355 swap
but theres a reson for that. the tbis are very consttrictive and really expensive and hard to find the parts to ubgrade. u could put out decent power with it but as far as building huge power that you wont without serious money. you could make a pretty solid 300-350 without a huge hassle
Re: 355 swap
well that ur desision to make. i understand wanting to be diff then others thats what i base y entire car on. if ur just building a mild 355 keep it for now you can always carb it later when u go for big power. just run a good spacer and air intake. its not that tbi is bad hell my sonoma is tbi its just that performance parts are few and far between and usually break the bank getting them
