Wiring harness
Excuse me if this has been asked before, but I'm putting a 91 5.7 TPI in a 87 IROC and my question is - Are the two wiring harnesses the same..? I know the motors are different.. MAF SD MAP..etc

Re: Wiring harness
No, plan is still to install the 91 5.7 and I plan to take your advise on changing out the TPI's. I just didn't know which harness to use. I'm worried that I might not have the 87 harness. I knew (after you informing me) that I was going from a MAP to a MAF, but I was hoping the same connector would work.
Thanks, I sure wish you were my next door neighbor. I have like a million questions..lol Thanks for your help, and taking the time to care.. If you send me a way to send you some pics I will..

If you don't have the '87 harness, you either need to find one (might be able to find one on the TGO classifieds", or go to the '91 system. The '91 SD system is generally considered "superior" to handle upgrade mods with tuning, but the MAF is simpler.
The easiest way to post photos is to go to www.photobucket.com and establish an account (it's free). Download your pictures to that site. When you click on a picture, when it comes up on your screen, to the right will be some choices such as "Direct link" and "Image code". If you click on "Image code", it will automatically copy the URL code to your clipboard. Come back to your TGO text window, <Ctrl>V, and your picture will be in your post when you submit, like this:

Hey guy.. have you ever heard of this...????
Cable X
#68. Install a mechanical tachograph or operate a mechanical speedometer on a vehicle equipped with an electronic speedometer signal (sensor). You can do it -- quickly and easily -- at a cost far below that of buying and installing drive gears in the transmission. You save on the cost of buying and installing electronic tachographs and speedometers.
Cable X lets you use popular, low cost mechanical tachographs such as Abbott, Argo, Sangamo, Servis Recorder and Veeder-Root, and mechanical speedometers such as Autometer, Clark Brothers, Datcon, Stewart Warner and Teleflex. It operates at accurate speeds -plus or minus 2%- on the most common OEM electronic speed signals, and is as easy to install as any electronic tachograph.
You save hours of downtime installing gears into the transmission, and you don't have to mess with troublesome, expensive and long cables. Cost $369.00

$300+ for something you can do without spending any money?
No, thank you.
(I bought a Cable X box for my LS1/4L60E swap into an '82 Camaro 6 months ago because putting mechanical drive an an 4L60E ain't cheap. Still haven't got that thing working.)

Re: Wiring harness
Ok, today had a little time to remove the tail shaft.. tomorrow, going to try to change it out. I was mistaken, I don't have the 87 wiring harness, I only have the 91. My engine is going in a few days.. Stone

Re: Wiring harness
no big troubles i put the 92 tpi sd setup in my 88 tbi car. dnt really remember which wires i had to move in the bulk head but you need to find both diagrams for that and mark the wires with tape before you move them incase you have to move them back. also the altenator wires different you have to run a extra wire in the 92 harness into the car to make it charge right. Also need to bypass the vats and get a retrofit speed sensor for the torque convertor to lock and get the right air fuel ratio.

Re: Wiring harness
Found a guy that'll just set the motor and tranny in for me for $400 including the rear end (it's from the same 91 Z28), and the exhaust (ditto) next week. Once it's in I can start hooking up the radiator, and all the connectors and fire her UP! Was on another website looking for a rear hatch and other stuff when I came across this... http://www.coolcamaro.cz28.com/photo3.html
