first thread/my 6.5 diesel twin theory

its my picture limited (for now) write up on the ups and downs on my 6.5 diesel swap and later on twin alternators, twin turbos, quad batteries, and a full cold start wvo veg kit (super cheap/free fuel) i may also be doing a upper control arm swap and i will be doing a rack and pinion conversion , i`ve planed and measured for a full pc and also plan to do some kind of hvac mod , ive done no measurement or test on the hvac but intend to install individual vent flaps electronically switched and a high flow fan system along with quite possibly 2 heater cores and 2 ac systems (compressor condenser and evaporator) i basically want the best (if someone does better for one thing i wont care but combined it needs to be the best) and i dont wanna have to re do anything , i already had installed and runningish one 6.5 but it blew a connecting rod as i got screwed over on the engine , im gonna pick one up next month (July 2013) from the you pull yard for 300 with turbo (need a second one) it fit with no mods but i need to do a 4l80e swap and had to do mods to fit the manifolds , i will be starting with non turbo and 1 alternator and no ac or heater core also only 2 batteries and as easy as that sounds it may end up harder than with 2 turbos or as least harder than if i went with headers , i chose the stock manifolds , and needed to chop the top of the turbo manifold off to fit the passenger side manifold , and for the drivers side i needed to cut the corner off of the rear drivers side lower control arm mount and notch the sub frame , i can get pictures of these parts , but the engine was removed so no pictures of that (i just as pissed on account of the inability to check clearances this produces , oh i forgot i will be doing a white paint job (currently black) with black accents

Re: 6.5 diesel twin theory

so far the hardest part is the 4l80e , driveshafts too long and i need a cross member , the main plug pops in to the case if i push , so the pan needs to be off to plug the wires in which means im pluging it in then im ataching it

Re: first thread/my 6.5 diesel twin theory

1500 could get this which is a bit scratched up and has black tail , good if your into that version oh and either way the front grills will be black http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ490881151
or for 3395 you could get this with a seemingly mint paint job and white tail http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ492289017 both are good starts and both have the right tail lights , also for almost every other part of the system its only annother $2600 for the rad , rack , tunnel tq arm , engine , power trunk open/close and full pc without screen , mostly everything but the screen the rims and the vegtable oil system , yes i know the ads will only be open so long and are only in ontario canada , but there just for picture and average price reference

man... i get like 25+ in my old 305 tpi on the highway.. even in a big diesel like that 50-60 should not be a problem with the right tuning, and no mileage drop when ya go into the mountains because of the turbo

Re: first thread/my 6.5 diesel twin theory

i know , at my first fit the second alternator and the ac hit , i have to do custom tubing for both turbos and the upper intake only fits backwards so it needs chopping , the fan wont fit without a notch in the hood , basicly im gonna have to cut relief holes and maybe box it in till i get the better rad and elextric fans , im going with some large scoops but it still needs to look modest , nothing too tall , and i hate cowel induction , i might see about droping the engine and making a custom oil pan thats shallower but wider at the bottom , the higher the engine the wider the scoops need to be , the ones i had i mind are 13 inches wide or so and 2 feet long tapering at the back

Re: first thread/my 6.5 diesel twin theory

no planed intercooler , definatly adding ac (non ac car) may add 2 ac systems instead of the vaccuum pump , i may use/make a air to watter intercooler see 3.8 supercharged grand prix not 3.8 sc t-bird
and to increase the cooling ill add a separate rad system and pump somewhere , or ill use a ac system to cool the air , super cold ait and it would be like a super charger , the power draw will be compensated by the power increase , and it can be shut off for efficiency

Re: first thread/my 6.5 diesel twin theory

i will efectivly have 12 close ratio gears if i do a valve body mod and swap the gears in a gear venders overdrive from .73 to .9 giving a max difference of .372
with 3.57 rear gears i could still maintain the same speeds and rpm`s but with these ratios
1 2.48
2 2.232
3 1.86
4 1.674
5 1.48
6 1.332
7 1.11
8 1.00
9 0.999
10 .90
11 .75
12 .675
which would increase efiecency slightly but where it would shine is in stop and go trafic as it wouldnt go high on the rpm`s and 1st would be lowered as i would have a low gear in the rear , the hard part is modding the gear venders fyi i run 3.21 as it stands and if i go 24 od tires not 26 od then it will be close with stock gearing

and as for the dash , i wanna keep it as stock looking as i can but with multi gauges and no axis gauges with axis gauges in the center all that stuff so when its off it looks stock but when the gauges have values the needles split to read seperate sensors ill draw and post a picture on request as its a lot of work

Re: first thread/my 6.5 diesel twin theory

Any questions not answered by my 6.2L diesel install thread?
You will need the best radiator possible, I'd say just order a new BeCool. Or better yet, custom order one 50% thicker than normal. Then don't put the a/c in front of it, nor any other coolers. Stagger a pair of the highest-flowing electric puller fans behind it. As big as you can fit. And you will need the secondary airdam that goes exactly under the radiator. No less than 2.5". And don't solid-mount your 6.5

Re: first thread/my 6.5 diesel twin theory

if your implying that im being redundant than your not even reading this , this is more than anyones ever done to a car and as for cooling theres that 3 inch griffin rad and ill use 13200 cfm of cooling for electric fans at only 18 amps for some reason which i dont believe but thats with 6 fans and for a 7 inch fan at $110 a peice (ill get them one at a time and its cheaper than a new engine) they better be the specs they say or ill waste my money as for the ac , im going to tie in a cut off so when it goes high the fans just cool the engine , first thing im installing is a tps cuttof at 95c even for a basic 150km max single travel setup so it cant burn out but the pump still cools , also enough power to get me to the side of the road and idle home , i will also have it initate cold idle (high) as to make the torque converter minimum rpm i will also install 2 block heaters but probily never use them as my dad lost a truck from just 1. not gonna solid mount , dont think i said that did i? exactly under the rad? do you mean in front of the support or behind it (engine side) cause mine comes with that its a trans am moddel , long term im doing fron scoops (ram air?) so its cold air intake , but im doing the 4th gen coolant resivoir mod so that and my winch (yes dont ask , im doing a hitch too) would block air (not so much the winch its the reservoir) and im doing two side turbos which would better be suited in a dual control arm system my only isue is if things i wanna do interfere with each-other such as the computer, heat system and the 4l80e

Of course I don't read your incomprehensible posts. And if you want to berate me for trying to save you from learning the hard way, fine. Go ahead and have it your way, then redo it. You're not adding more weight than an all-iron 454, likewise you're not going any farther in power than mild LS1s, nor are you exceeding my eternal record for hitching and hitch-bracing a third gen, and as everyone will agree, the winch will quickly prove an unwise mistake. And if you stop posting progress, we'll know you're too proud to admit your results will have proven me correct. But if you bite the hand that feeds you, then no more sound advice from me.

"Any questions not answered by my 6.2L diesel install thread?" was the line i was speaking of (i re read and guess i was just in a bad mood , but you wernt telling me that my thread was useless where you?) and ya i finaly got the engine (if you can call it that ,next quick post will tell that) and my dads truck blew a front tire (only flat at first) and we had to drive home on shreads and there was tire flying everywhere it was so bumpy but i got it and thats the good part , im gonna start it before i put it in

Re: first thread/my 6.5 diesel twin theory

so ya it has no injection pump , the lines are cut , almost all the bolts are missing , the front timing plate wais mangled so i left that and the water pump behind , no alternator no ac , **** down the intake ports , had to chop the exhaust to get the engine out front harmonic was slipping so i have to use my old one and on the wires for the 4l80e the main plug was cut , and so was the rear sensor (spead?) and ya my inability to string sentences together will be hidden when i just say everything to my computer and it writes it for me that aside what are the problims with winches , i may reinforce , and i have to do the hitch to hold extra fuel and a means of collecting it when im not just driving around town , and the thing thats special about mine is everything together not one specific thing , and ive always loved the third gen since i first saw it , especially trans am`s even non formula fire birds and i dont think id try this in another car even if it was a better fit

Re: first thread/my 6.5 diesel twin theory

oh and im not going any further in power than a stock 350 , maybe even a 305 , the main thing i cant stress enough (forgive me if i didnt already mention it ive been pestered about it elseware in reall life) that im making this for is go far go cheap , fuel economy a large tank and running waste vegtable oil from start up are all to facilitate that , im also adding a pa system and a microphone system so i can communicate even with the windows up and i can tell people things on high volume when there using ac

and i wouldn't be too proud , and seriously why cant i see your threads , also either a on the fiberglass one that i may do or be on this one but later , i plan to make a full frame with really thick plates an baffle braces every foot or so , but still the same size just thicker and possibly full square not c channel , not to show you or anyone up , just so my mind is at ease , but the hitch will be capable of pulling a standard 2 wheel car dolly and a extended cab (still 2 door) full size truck like a ford or a gmc , of coarse the engine may not
