From crossfire to tpi engine swap

Sorry if I'm doing or saying anything wrong, I'm new to this forum and I'm quite new on the topic of cars in general!

My dad has kept his 1982 Pace Camaro in a barn for over 20 years. He was going to do an engine swap on it. He refuses to cut wires and so on. He wants to keep everything as original as it was. so if he ever wanted to he could go back to the stock engine without any issues. He never really figured out what to do with this issue and kinda left the car under blankets, which it has stayed for longer than i have lived.
But because I'm suddenly into cars now he is looking back on it, and now we have more internet as well. I couldn't find anything through my days of searching so now i ask you guys.

Hope my question was understandable enough

Realistically, if he is that dead set on being able to go back to stock, he should get the entire engine wiring harness out of a TPI equiped car. Then remove the original harness out of his car and save it for a future swap back to stock.

Otherwise he will have to do some cutting and splicing on his original harness. Nothing that couldn't be reversed, but it sounds like he isn't going to go for that.

Re: From crossfire to tpi engine swap

It wasn't that many months ago I was reading some feature about a CFI '84 Corvette running 12s, still using the CFI 350. Getting a spare computer chip, or maybe just a 'vette computer, is no big deal. I'd guess cam specs would determine if it goes well or becomes a headache. Definitely go HR, with 1.6:1 rockers, and I'd start with Comp's smallest XFI grind. I might eventually try their next larger XFI offering.
You might just copy that 'vette, the parts and the tuning. Want me to try to find it, post a link if I can?

Seconded on replacing the entire harness. 20 years of sitting hasn't done it any favors anyways!

Re: From crossfire to tpi engine swap

Why replace the CFI? Tuned port motors have their own issues. Should be able to get 250-275 rear wheel HP easily with a mildly modified 350.

A CFI pace car is pretty rare.

Will have to check on the harness, not sure if one is available for 82. Most I see are for 85 up I think. The 82 ECM uses a card edge connector to the wiring harness. GM switched to the pin type connector in 85.
