zz4
i have some q's about the zz4. First of all i once saw an add for a zz4 that came with all kinds of goodies for our cars like a new carb, airbox, ecm, etc. and cant remember where. DOes anyone know where i can get this, how much it is and where and for how much i could have it installed? Also what kind of times could i run with this in an 83 bird(700r4, 3.08 rears) w/headers, gutted cat, 40-series, and subframe connectors
I am a bit confused by you post you ask about a crate motor that comes with a carb. and an ecm. If you are talking about a TBI? than the kit you are talking about is the 10185077 - HO 350 Camaro Conversion any GMPP dealer sells them for about $4,415.47. If you are talking about a carb. application I don't know what you need an ecm for but the most complete motor GM sells is the 12496968 - 330/350 HO Deluxe for about $3,090.83 it is 330hp but is not a ZZ4.

The conversion kit you mention is for computer-controlled carb '82-'87 applications with automatic - that's why you need an ECM. It'll run in the high 13's/low 14's in an emissions-certified configuration. With headers and higher number gears, you should be a little deeper into the 13's. It's intended to be a do-it-yourself installation, but you might be able to get someone to do it for you for an additional $1500-2000.
The ZZ4 also comes in a Deluxe version that has the distributor & carb, but it is intended for '75-earlier or off-road applications only.

l can comment on drivability and performance of the ZZ4 motor.
the ZZ4 is an amazing high-performance motor. the streetability and every-day drivability is phenomonal. my 87 camaro SC gets about 12-14 MPG on the street, and gets a few extra cruising on the highway, it stays at a constant 190 degrees even in the hottest most humid days, and comes up to temperature even on the coldest days. check my signature for track numbers and performance.

Perhaps my meds have worn off. Either they used to offer it, or I'm confused.
It wouldn't be hard to make one. All you need are carb (probably cheaper from Summit than from GM), and other bolt-ons like flex plate.
