SLP installation kit
For those that have actually installed their SLP headers, I have a question.
My kit came with extra plumbing (fan elbow switch) Did anyone use this piece?
Which side of the block is the fan switch located? I believe its on the passenger side need to be sure.

I didnt, but yes the fan switch is on the passenger side head between the #6 and #8 cylinders. The temp gauge switch is on the driver's side between the #1 and #3.

Anyone knows how to tighten spark plug #3 & #4? Spark plug socket will not go into plug do to clearance problem with headers.

Lesson learned:
Install spark plugs Prior to bolting headers into place.

Kevin91Z & WARDO, thanks for the added advice.
Finally installed the entire system. Took 2 days but I can honestly say I can do it in half a day now that I know what I am doing. For those that purchased the SPL here is an added note to go with the instruction.
You should have gotten an installation instruction with your kit. The instruction guide I have goes for the 1 5/8 headers with a single catalytic converter. It should be the same with the 1-¾ headers.
First step, try using different header bolt then the ones provided. Maybe an allen head bolt. Reason being I had a hard time trying to tighten the bolts once they were in place. There is not much clearance between the bolt and header.
Follow step 1 & 2
Step 3 and 4. Remove the 4 bolts holding the y-pipe to the headers. Disregard removing the y-pipe from the catalytic converter. I would suggest removing the bolts from the rear of the converter that hooks to your intermediate pipe. This will definitely save you some time in removing the y-pipe.
Follow step 5 & 6.
Step 7. Remove all the valve cover bolts on the driver side only. You do not have to take off the valve cover, just move the valve cover closer to the TBI. This will help you to slide the headers in. It would also help if you turn the steering wheel to help with the installation. There is a piece on the upper part of the steering that hindered my installation. Once the headers are in, do not bolt them to the motor. I would suggest installing the coolant elbow and brand new spark plugs. Headers will get hot; suggest getting heat shield boots for the plugs. The coolant elbow is located on the passenger side on the heads. Make sure the elbow is pointing toward the ground once it is tighten. Once these 2 items are in, then proceed to connect headers to the motor. Trust me, I had a hard time trying to bolt the plugs into the motor with the headers on. I had no special tools such as a off set wrench which might of helped install the plugs. The there is no much space between the spark plug tip to the headers to install a socket. Maybe you can try using shorter plugs. Do not forget to tighten the driver side valve cover.
Follow step 8. Make sure when you install the oil dipstick, that it has a rubber O-ring. I forgot and left a WET SPOT on the garage floor.
Follow step 9,10 and 11.
Anyone else that would like to add to this is more than welcome.
By the way the system sounded really good and loud that I had to go with the smallest plate on the Borla exhaust system.

I also have a Borla system and am about to install my SLP 1 3/4's as soon as I get some time. What did you do about the pipe from the cat to the Borla system? Did you just have one made at an exhaust shop or did you find someone to mandrel bend it for you. I am worried because that bend is like 45 Degrees and a regular bend seems like it will resrtict too much flow.

john5.7 87Iroc,
The intermediate pipe is a 3" pipe, which I had purchased from Midas back in 1996. Sad to say that the pipe was not a mandrel bent but it still sound good. The catalytic converter has 2 1/2 in and 2 1/2out. This should give me back some low end torque but I do have a 3in and 3 out CATCO converter on the shelve waiting to be installed at a later date.

Note of caution for those with SFC's. The y-pipe will hit the passenger SFC. Well at least mine does and have to fabricate something to prevent it from happening.
