Warlocks out, Bullets in

See here for earlier post https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=191456 (this is the 396/'57, in case you hadn't figured that out).

Based on the results, I pulled the Warlocks and put in the Bullets. With the collector adapter already welded into the inlet (and flange cut off), the Bullets were the same length as the Warlocks. The routing was slightly different, since the Warlocks outlet was off-set from the inlet, but with the flex pipe I was already using from the collector to the Warlock inlet, I was able to make the connection.

A little louder now, perhaps, but quieter than the Bullets w/o tailpipes. Will have to wait until Friday to see if running 2-1/2" tailpipes after the Bullets has any effect on performance (the tailpipes didn't affect performance when I had them put on the Warlock outlets 2 years ago).

Verdict in - Warlocks stay out

There were a couple of other variables (weather and carb tuning), but it appears that the 3" Bullets with 2-1/2" tailpipes to the bumper run as well as the 3" Warlocks uncorked. And certainly, a lot better than the Warlocks corked.

OK.

So the Warlocks were more quiet while they were corked, but the Bullets are more quiet than the Warlocks uncorked? But they both ran ~ the same times when the Warlocks were uncorked?

Did I get that right, or am I just more confused?

The reason I'm asking is because I have a '72 Camaro that needs new mufflers. I was considering the Warlocks, but if the Bullets aren't that much louder than the corked Warlocks, then maybe I'll go that route.

My other option is oval Ultra Flows. I'm sure they'd be more quiet than the Bullets, right??? Which isn't a bad thing

The Bullets crackle a lot more than the corked Warlocks under power. Idle, they're about the same. But the Bullets are quieter than uncorked, as you might imagine.

But, the Bullets let the car run just as well as the uncorked Warlocks, which is significantly better than corked Warlocks.

Whew, that is confusing, isn't it. But yes, you got it right.

I'm gaining a little more respect for Dynomax. I've heard good things about the Ultras, just not their headers.
