I just picked up a Dynomax 2 1/2" exhaust tonight from the y-pipe back. I wish it was 3", but oh well.

I installed headers on my Camaro when it still had the 305 and it was no big deal as most of the extra crap was pulled out of the engine bay.

I was just going to weld this exhaust onto my factory y-pipe on my new Firebird. The guy included a y-pipe for headers too (forgot to ask which brand he was running)

My goal with this car is to leave it stock motorwise, but put some nice wheels and a decent paintjob on it. I have my Cutlass for speed and noise.

Do you think it's worth the hassle to install a set of headers with the exhaust? Or will the gains (performance and economy) not outway the hassles. Keep in mind this car has A/C, cruise, and all the other factory "in the way stuff'

Yes, one of the very first mods I would do is replace the stock exhaust. It is terribly resrictive and gains have been seen as much as 50hp with a full exhaust.
