Pics on hedman headers install
well so far i've spent approx 6 hours removing the old manifolds and AIR system and installing the drivers side header. Its the first time i've done this so i'm taking my time
got the drivers side finished now. i got it in by undoing the engine mount a lifting the engine by a inch or so , thought i would drop it in to see where exactly i would weld my O2 bung in and i manged to snap my spark plug off
so it might be an idea to drop them out although you can clear them. i also found it easier to remove the power steering pump and put it to one side ,
heres a couple of pics.
here is the o2 bung that i had to weld up to the drivers side collecter, you've got to make sure its at the back of the header as thats the only place there is clearance, i stuck a cork in the sleeve whilst i welding it up so not to get any splatter in the thread
this is the header in but you can see the Power steering bracket is still loose , i had to do a bit of fabricating to make it fit again as its original mounting were on the old manifolds so i made up a new mounting point using the old manifold bolts . I found that the original bracket would not sit over the first primary so i chopped off the right hand side hole and it gave my enough clearance to pop it over

i found that all my brake pipes needed re-routing as they were touching the primarys so i undone the brake pipe mounting brackets and repositioned them

tomorrow night i'm on to the passengers side , heres a pic of it after stripping the old manifolds out,. note the original AIR pipe still in place , i'm just going to chop it back and bung it up,.

yep , got the y-pipe to do after. from the y-pipe i go into electric cutouts , where the cat was , and then into a hooker cat back system
pg29 i'm not entirelly sure mate but i would think so , its mainly a problem due to the steering column and i think that some guys just pop the connection off and get clearance that way ,. it really isn't a big deal to raise the engine an inch or so . it took me about 10 mins with a trolley jack and a block of wood .

Just got back from installing the passenger side , just as bad as the drivers side,.
Slight problem in that the last bolt went mega tight about 5 mm before it hit the header . is the best thing to take it out and put a washer on ??
also the header runs against a metal pipe that i believe is a engine coolant pipe , i've tried prying it out the way but it just springs back to its usual place,. will it hurt to have the header hitting it ??

Thats the coolant return from the Heater core. You could get some hose and re-route it and get rid of the pipe completely. Theres a write up in the FAQ, Or you could get some of that header wrap and that would probably take care of it.

i just installed hooker 2055's on my 88 350tpi. i had to raise the motor on the passenger side, but on the drivers side if you remove the alternator, or power steering pump and take the valve cover off, it will slip right in there. now i know this isnt the same header, but its something that i found worked with mine, just passing some information along to you folks. i love my headers. i cant beleive the power i gained just from putting headers on instead of manifolds. but i am only going on the "butt-dyno" numbers, but it feels so much better. and it sounds awesome. headers was my first mod. hopefully more to come. keep up the good work man, its worth it in the end.
