Pretty Magnaflow exhaust on my not-so-pretty 'bird
Just finished installing the Magnaflow cat-back. Little more challenging than i had thought with some issues connecting it to the existing cat and not having my taller jackstands to have more room to work, but finally got it together. I stopped short of making some cuts to get it exactly perfect as I'm planning on doing a full resto on this car later in the year. Came out pretty nice. It sounds fantastic. It isnt super loud at idle, but sounds low and mellow, then nice and loud and smooth when you stomp on it. I havent taken it out for a drive yet since the weather sucks today. She'll head out for an inspection sticker tomorrow! I'll borrow my buddys I-phone later this week and post some clips.

I am just about to order this system for my 89. What were the issues you had connecting it to the cat, and what did you do to resolve?
Thanks

Re: Pretty Magnaflow exhaust on my not-so-pretty 'bird
i think the cat on mine is the original (but its been hollowed). The system did not bolt up at all. its a 3 inch pipe w/ a two bolt flange at the foward end and the cat is a 2.5" exit with a flange that could be 2 bolt, but doesnt line up with the magnaflow flange. I played around with trying to find a matching flange to put on the cat, but couldnt make it work. I finally decided to just cut off the flanges on both and use a reducer. that worked just fine. I was even able to bend the tab on the hanger connected to the tranny mount so it would bolt to the clamp i used on the reducer. the reducer is a standard 3">2.5". Check and seee if your cat has a 2.5" outlet or 2.25" outlet. if its 2.25, you will have to double reduce.
Like any cat back, it takes a little work to get everything into place, but it does fit. I had to make a custom hanger from some strap material for the over-axle-tube mount.
get it jacked up as high as you can so you can work easily.
I've been driving it for a few days now, i really like it. I love the fact that its super quiet at idle and cruise, no drone at all at highway, but sounds awesome as soon as you give it some throttle.

On my cat bend i cut off the flange of the magna system and had it expanded to 3" id. Then i slid my cut out pipe into that and used a torctite lap band clamp.

Nice!
I'm heading up to the muffler shop to get my Magnaflow catback and Magnaflow universal cat installed this morning.
Just finished installing Hooker headers, Bosch III fuel injectors (22 #'s), and a BBK AFPR.
Hope no cops are around as I'll be running with open headers!!

it will prob sound even better with headers!
The only downside of a nice catback is it feeds the addiction! As soon as I saw the new system on there i just wanted to start chopping old parts off and put on some nice headers! Patience, patience! I'd love to hear an sound clip when you get yours done, *Pearl.
