Feeler: Original rear trunk louvers

I have a set of original GM louvers with all hardware. They are in really good condition. Coming off an '88 IROC with only 44k miles and garage kept its whole life. Not sure how these will sell considering how large they are as shipping may be prohibitively expensive. Offers welcome. Text 469-451-8864 or PM

That's good to know. Any handy links on how to take them apart? Have a buyer and we were just trying to work out shipping. This could be extremely useful.

Re: Feeler: Original rear trunk louvers

The metal slats come off the side plastics. Take a small flat head and very carefully pry the metal indents off the plastic. Be careful they may be glued from the factory.

Re: Feeler: Original rear trunk louvers

Being disassembled doesn't really agree with them. The slats have catches that snap onto the plastic side pieces. Getting them apart will probably bend those catch tabs back the wrong way. Since they're aluminum, it's not like you can bend them back and forth all day. Bending them once may break the tabs off. Also, the slats should be epoxied to the side pieces. Plenty of opportunities to damage the parts trying to get them apart. Exercise caution.

Re: Feeler: Original rear trunk louvers

Its really easy to take them apart. These are some random pictures I had on my laptop. If you take it slow its easy to not bend the tabs. If thy get a little bent, its very minor. Not really a big deal. Whats a big deal is when the metal slabs get bent out of shape and you have some that are spaced at different unequal gaps, if that make sense. In the picture I think the plastics are cregars, but the slats are gm for sure. same concept.

They're more glossy than they should be. Either repainted, or polished. Easy enough to correct.

Re: Feeler: Original rear trunk louvers

Drew, you didn't have problems with the louvers I disassembled and sent you, did you? I was very careful with the disassembly to prevent any damage. I did have to carefully bend the edge of the slat to remove it over the lock tab, but I straightened them back to original.

You just have to go slow and careful and you should be ok. Also, I can't remember how I packed and shipped the set I did, but 1" taller or 1" wider would have cost double to ship. Be sure to pack them well, and watch your packing size or shipping will hurt.

No, they went back together OK. I just wouldn't be brave enough to ever take a set apart. Attempting to get them apart could potentially result in damage that wouldn't be easy to reverse.

Re: Feeler: Original rear trunk louvers

These are sold. Need to update. Built a crate and shipped as one piece. Drew may be right. I thought they were shinny too. The guy I bought the car from worked at a paint shop so quite possible he painted them. He painted the front hood louvers and plastic front grill gray to match the car.
