Long story short, my 305 tpi will not stay above 1,000 rpm. It will die down to 500 rpm followed with chirps and knocking

The first I’ve done was adjust the distributor and put the timing at 6 advanced. Doing this smoothed the engine. It ran normal and the noises went away.

unrelated to this, the cooling fans did not kick on and smoke came from the fan motors so I stopped everything. Came back a few weeks later and the engine began making described noises again

I have done other things and tried other diagnosis but I don’t want to part bomb. I will attach a video link. Any advice or information would be appreciated!
