Gears are turning, need any and all advice......
Ok, so I grabbed the surf board, jumped on the web, and am now feeling inspired as ****. I am considering putting an independent rear suspension under my RS. So before I grab the torches, grinders and welder I am wondering if any one on here has done this. Here's my plan.......
Go to a local salvage yard, buy a vette, rip out the rear.
Mod what I can, grab the welder, grinder
Say a few words that would even make a sailor blush, and than grab a shoe horn, and a few cold brews, and put it under my car.
Now I can weld almost anything and am a decent fabricator, but even the best of us scratch our heads and need help. And tthat's where I'm at right now. Any advice or even some pics of jobs done?

Are you an experienced welder? The only issue with fab work is, you need experience if you expect to be able to anticipate the outcomes

There's a few threads on here detailing the process. Can't remember if they are in the Fabrication or Drivetrain sections though. A search for "IRS" or "C4 rear" should find them easily though.

I don't know why he split the thread but there is this one
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fabr...uspension.html
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fabr...continued.html
another one
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fabr...onversion.html
There is at least one more, but I am not going that far back in my subscription history. I am in "the middle" of one myself, but I am working on another (two/three/four depends how you look at it) projects right now. It's relatively easy, you cut out the upper spring pockets and make brackets for the batwing to weld there, you have to cut out part of the wheel tubs for the trailing arm mounts, then you have to figure out how to mount the front of the differential

I had to post twice because the site limited me to 12 pictures per post, so I made a "in progress" and a "completed" post. One thing to remember is that you will be welding mild steel to galvanized steel and the frame rails where you attach the brackets will need to be reinforced with plates.

It's per post, not per thread, you could have just "replied" to your original post and continued
