1987 Pontiac Trans Am NO LONGER FOR SALE

I bought this car back in 2002 with the intention of resto-modding it. The picture of it in the gravel parking lot is of the car on the day I bought it back on July 26th, 2002. As you can see, I have gotten about 75% finished with this project. You buy it you finish it. It needs wet sanded/buffed, trim installed, interior installed (I have all of it), and throttle cable installed and you could drive it. There are other optional suspension components included in the auction that are to be put on buy the buyer.

I am selling this car because I come from a family if bikers and I did without a motorcycle since my divorce in 2001. So one day out of the blue back in May of 2007, after six years without a bike, I walked into a Victory dealer and rode off on a bran new Victory Hammer motorcycle. I haven’t looked back, and the car has sat since then. I have completely lost interest in this car. I also need the room in the garage so that I can use the space to help others. I am getting rid of it for a better purpose in life.

Back in 2001 I was, through the grace of God, saved and became a born again Christian. As soon as I bought my motorcycle, I joined the local CMA Chapter (Christian Motorcyclist Association) in Princeton IL. We are the Shekinah Riders #593. Since then I have become a member of the CMA Mechanic Ministry Team, and I manage our local’s website. I need my Garage for the Mechanic Ministry. Enough about that.

The car has around $10,000 to $12,000 invested into it. (not necessarily a wise choice of investments for me)

Body:

1) I had the rust in the body replaced with new replacement panels.
2) The doors were replaced with rust free specimens.
3) The body was primed and painted with PPG base and PPG clear.
4) New replacement fiberglass rear wing (still needs painted).
5) I have a set of new T-Top seals for the car.
6) Spare glass for the T-Tops.
7) Original T-Tops are MINT and I have the original leather bag.
8) New set of Gold decals not installed (no hood bird).
I still have some PPG paint left (not sure how good it is) so you could paint the wing and the two bottom pannels to the nose (not seen unless you lay on the ground), and the car needs a final wet sand and buff.

Suspension:

1) Largest factory front and rear sway bars available are installed.
2) F41 springs.
3) I have heavy duty sub frame connectors for the car not installed but included.
4) I have rear control arm lowering brackets (greatly improves traction) for the car not installed but included.
5) Poly mounts for the Torque arm, and front sway bar.
6) 3 inch aluminum drive shaft with new stainless steel yolk (not installed).
7) Edelbrock strut tower brace.
8) Factory Formula 16 inch wheels with bran new Kumo 711 tires.
9) New front brakes (new calipers and rotors are included but need installed).

Transmission: 0.0 miles on rebuild.

1) Fully rebuilt using an Art Carr “Beast” reaction Shell, Art Carr Hardened input shaft, and Art Carr stator support.
2) Upgraded 5 gear rear Planet set.
3) 10 vane high output front pump with .500 boost valve, and heavy duty spring for increased line psi.
4) B&M shift kit.
5) Corvette servo.
6) Kevlar band.
7) Modified 3-4 up shift valve for full throttle up shifts into overdrive.
8) HVAC condenser was converted into a transmission cooler.
9) 2600-2800 Stall speed lock-up torque converter.
10) Lockup has been wired inside tranny for use without computer control because ECM was removed from car, but needs a wire connected from tranny to the switch on the break pedal.
11) Spare used transmission included.

Rear End: 150 miles on rebuild.

1) Moser 28 spline alloy axles.
2) Torsen posi differential.
3 3:73 Richmond Gears.
4) New Bearings.
5) Aluminum Support cover (girdle).

Engine: 0.0 miles on rebuild

1) 2 bolt Chevy 350 bored .030. ARP head bolts, and ARP main Studs installed.
2) 9.4 to one Speed Pro Hypereutectic pistons .125 dome with coated skirts.
3) PM rods.
4) 2 piece seal cast crank.
5) Fluid Damper.
6) Race balance.
7) B&M heavy duty flex plate.
8) 2.02/1.60 stainless valves.
9) Dual valve springs (140# seat psi)
10) Hardened seats (76cc heads).
11) Replacement steel guides.
12) Screw in studs with guide plates.
13) Aluminum full roller rocker arms 1.6 to 1 ratio.
14) Comp Cams 282S solid lifter cam .528 lift with the 1.6 rockers.
15) Howard’s “Direct Lube” lifters. (have a .021 hole in the flat of each lifter to lube the cam lobes)
16) Weiand Stealth 4V intake with EGR port. (good to 6800 rpm)
17) Custom built “Jet Performance” Quadra Jet carb built specifically for this car by Jet. (still needs some minor tuning)
18) HEI ignition with high performance Mallory ignition module and Mr. Gasket advance weights.
19) Headman shorty headers and Y-pipe.
20) Flowmaster American Thunder 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust system (yes… its LOUD).
21) Edelbrock air cleaner.
22) Chrome oil pan, dipstick, and valve covers.
23) Double row roller timing chain.
24) New radiator in 2002 Has only a 1000 or so miles on it.
25) New Battery in 2005. Practically no use on it.
26) Cam has been broken in.
I think that’s it.

Interior (not installed yet but I do have all of it):

1) New black carpet for front and back.
2) Front seats were custom recovered and I have enough material left over for the rear seats to be recovered too.
3) B&M Mega Shifter.
4) Grant GT steering wheel.
5) No sound system.
6) New plastic headliner.
7) Replacement plastic door panel tops.
8) Center console is in very nice condition.
9) I have two spare instrument clusters, one has a 140mph speedo and the other has the 8000 rpm tach (factory 85mph/5500rpm cluster in car now).
10) The dash pad is in Great shape.
11) All other interior parts are dusty from the bodywork.

This car will make a GREAT car once put together. It is around 75% complete now. I have around 97% of the parts to put it back together. The parts I know are needed are the trim pieces for the hood intakes, and front fender intakes (body guy lost them), and any misc. nuts and bolts needed to put it together.

You will need to tow the car to your garage to put it together. I will not ship. CASH ONLY and Buyer takes full responsibility for emission testing etc and understands that this car was built for racing and comes with absolutely NO WARRANTY. What you do with this car is your business. My loss is your gain.

Sold AS-IS with clean title. Buyer will sign a disclaimer/receipt upon picking up vehicle.

I am asking $5000.00 for it.

The car is located in Dixon, Illinois.

Re: 1987 Pontiac Trans Am

Sorry for all of the crappy pics but I don't want to pull the car out of the garage with all the snow we got yesterday.

The pic in the other post of the car in the gravel parking lot is of the car the day I bought it back in July of 2002.

The car is very dusty from all of the sanding that was done while painting. I just never cleaned it up.

If you want to see the car in person send me an email: my3rdgen@hotmail.com (incase you missed it in the other post)

Re: 1987 Pontiac Trans Am

No longer available for sale, I can't part with it.

Maybe this was motivation to get off my butt and finish it.
